\nThe rear brake feels spongy. Since we’re at it anyway, let’s take it apart.<\/p>\n

\nThe seal is stiff. The grooves are gummy.
\nThe caliper piston isn’t moving well, so we wash the caliper and work it out. Very nice. But it’s awfully stiff? Something’s wrong? Even after thirty minutes, nothing changes?<\/p>\n

If it’s in the condition shown in the image, no amount of washing will restore it. It’s faster and more effective to split it and replace the seals.<\/p>\n

\nWe polish it right up. It’s fast, effective, and comes out very clean.<\/p>\n

\nThere’s some corrosion on the body. No problem.<\/p>\n

\nWe inspect it, apply metal lubricant properly, assemble it, and we’re done.<\/p>\n

\nThe covers are dirty, so the owner wants us to replace them all. We’ll do the oil-cooled maintenance, and the pulser later.<\/p>\n
