\nI made the parts pretty casually. I couldn’t do it this way on a real job.<\/p>\n

\nWelded with a patch-on rib.<\/p>\n

\nThis one I cut and welded too, and now it can go on the GS1000S frame.<\/p>\n

The tunnel was wide, which helped a lot.<\/p>\n

\nGSX1100E\u2014I cut off the normal mounting ears. When I TIG welded it, there seemed to be paint inside, so it was sputtering and wouldn’t stick, so I ran solder through it.<\/p>\n

Not touching it and getting hurt is good manners.<\/p>\n

\nThen the seat wouldn’t tighten\u2026 which was expected. Since the basic idea is no modifications to the main body and being able to revert it, I made a seat offset plate and a fuel sensor blind.<\/p>\n

\nFollowing the common wisdom that “black hides the rough spots and looks good,” I painted it black to cover it up.<\/p>\n

\nWith a flange lock, I was short one tooth\u2014that was unexpected\u2026 and the seat shifted.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s held tight and looks good.<\/p>\n

\nIt overlaps the tail cowl a bit, but that’s okay.<\/p>\n

Thanks to the loose tolerances of that era’s bikes.<\/p>\n

\nI’ll just buy a repro tail cowl and ride with this tank for a while.<\/p>\n
