\nEven after working the front caliper, it’s still heavy.
\nNo matter how much you work a damaged seal, it only improves slightly.<\/p>\n

If you’re going to spend 30 minutes or an hour on it, replacing the seal is faster and more effective.<\/p>\n

\nWe soak it in water and split it apart. We want to avoid damaging the paint as much as possible.<\/p>\n

\nThe caliper condition is good. There’s no severe corrosion, so it’s in pretty nice shape.
\nRemoval was tedious. Both retraction and extension were sluggish. The seal appears to have hardened.<\/p>\n

\nThe black paint on the inside will wear away a bit. After polishing it becomes smooth and slick, which should make corrosion less likely.<\/p>\n

\nAfter that it’s just inspection and assembly… but with two calipers you need four seals…<\/p>\n

I could only do one side.<\/p>\n

\nWhen removing the wheel, the axle was unusually hard to pull out, so I thought it might be bent, but it turned out fine.<\/p>\n

\nThe wheel bearing is too tight. It’s quite stiff.<\/p>\n

Even with this, the bearing holds up\u2014they really are impressive.<\/p>\n

I adjusted it anyway.<\/p>\n

\nAlso the speedometer cable. The lower side has rusty oil, the upper side is dry. I wiped it down, applied NC100 grease, and reinstalled it.<\/p>\n

\nThe clutch release is positioned in a really tight spot.
\nWe don’t have a cover gasket on hand.<\/p>\n

\nIt’s in pretty rough condition. For a moment I thought maybe I should have ordered a new one.<\/p>\n

\nThe lip is damaged and there are deep scratches. No wonder it’s leaking.<\/p>\n

\nAfter polishing it’s shiny and smooth. Let’s give it another go.<\/p>\n

\nThe shift position is awkward.<\/p>\n

\nFor the push direction, I’d like it to engage at least a bit more\u2014ideally by the bolt diameter.<\/p>\n

\nI think this is good. I removed the boot.<\/p>\n
