\nRemoving the cover is quite a challenge. This first job is full of mysteries.<\/p>\n

It wouldn’t budge at all, so what’s going on? There’s a bearing on the cover side that’s press-fitted and holding it in place.
\nI made a simple puller and carefully worked it off.<\/p>\n

\nTwo locations inside the case, one on the outside, secured from the inside.
\nAfter that, remove the starter motor clip and pull out the gear\u2014done.<\/p>\n

\nI was glad I could get it out without disconnecting the oil lines.<\/p>\n

\nSince there’s no manual, I’m documenting everything with photos as I go.<\/p>\n

\nIt looks like it’s worn down nearly 10 millimeters.<\/p>\n

\nI’ll polish it lightly and clean out the grooves to get it ready.<\/p>\n

\nThe magnet isn’t peeling off, so that’s reassuring.<\/p>\n

\nJust taking some measurements. The difference between the worn and unworn areas isn’t much.<\/p>\n

\nThe thickness varies slightly, so I filed it down and fitted it in. Check, check, and check again.<\/p>\n
