\nCorrosion is scattered throughout. Clear coat isn’t a cure-all. Wiping with rust preventative oil makes a huge difference.<\/p>\n

\nThere’s some kind of damage on both the left and right bottom cases. What could it be?<\/p>\n

\nThe interior dimensions seem fine. It’s good that there’s still room, but occasionally you see cases that have been dented from external impact, so we need to be careful.<\/p>\n

\nWhile wiping the outer edge with a paper wipe… something… isn’t deformed, is it?
\nAnd on both sides? With grooves on top and no height, a cylinder gauge won’t fit.<\/p>\n

We don’t have an inside micrometer that large, so I checked it with calipers.
\nIt turned out to just be poor finishing on the bottom case.<\/p>\n

\nWe polished it with a “whoosh” and it’s back to looking brand new.<\/p>\n

\nWe coated it and put the fork on hold for now.<\/p>\n

\nMoving on to work on the stem. The oil content is sufficient. It’s degraded and has become sticky.<\/p>\n

\nThis is the only time we can clean it, so we’ll brush it thoroughly.<\/p>\n

\nPress in the race and confirm visually.<\/p>\n

\nIt rubs a little, so we’ll do a break-in before using it.<\/p>\n

\nI don’t like this protruding head, so I’ll cut it down.<\/p>\n

\nThe stopper bolt was bent, so for safety’s sake I’ll switch it to steel.
\nThe usual electroless nickel plating.<\/p>\n

\nThe bolt is now shorter and held down by the head, so it might be slightly better.<\/p>\n

\nWe packed it generously with NC100 grease and assembled it.<\/p>\n
