\nApparently the engine shut down on its own, so they had to tow it in urgently. We’ve already been told that the connector between the generator and regulator is burned out.
\nFor now, we’ll cut everything and replace it with new parts. Hopefully the generator itself is still good.<\/p>\n

\nMost Japanese bikes use permanent magnet plus coil three-phase AC generation.
\nThree wires go into the regulator-rectifier where AC is converted to DC, and the regulator keeps it from going too high.<\/p>\n

Since the engine can start, let’s fire it up and check what’s happening on the AC side. We can measure the AC output on all three combinations\u2014A-B, A-C, and B-C\u2014to see if the generator is still working. It should be around 11\u201340 millivolts.<\/p>\n

Yeah, this is pretty much dead.<\/p>\n

\nWe connected everything and checked. It’s only putting out battery voltage, and it keeps dropping.
\nWe also confirmed that the left cover gasket is missing, so we need to figure that out too.<\/p>\n
