\nWith modern BD material and sintered brake pads on a single-piston setup, the braking effect is more than adequate.
\nThe original stock setup had a used disc and pads, so there’s no real comparison, but old pads and discs lose their bite even if there’s material left\u2014they’re just not fresh anymore.<\/p>\n

Once new pads and disc are properly bedded in, you really feel that “whoosh”\u2014the bike slows down hard and fast.
\nWhen bedding in, the basic approach is to avoid dragging the brakes. Instead, do repeated cycles of gentle braking\u2014warm them up, cool them down, warm them up, cool them down. That’s the way to go.<\/p>\n

I think the stock calipers are better than fitting cheap, thin aftermarket support brackets (though it’s a shame some calipers have limited pad options).<\/p>\n

For absolute braking performance, I’d say start with the disc and pads.
\nFor control, it’s the master cylinder and hose.
\nWith calipers, pad selection and piston seal responsiveness are critical. You also have to be careful not to go too large with piston diameter.<\/p>\n
