Steering lubrication and adjustment. It doesn’t look like this has ever been disassembled before.<\/p>\n

The condition is pretty good.<\/p>\n

The grease was on its last legs, all gummy and sticky.<\/p>\n

Pretty sparse on the lubrication.<\/p>\n

Since the fork is the main focus, we’ll clean, lubricate, and adjust it.<\/p>\n

It’s good to double-check for peace of mind.<\/p>\n

You’ll notice the steering improvement more than the fork.<\/p>\n

Sure enough, it hits the meter. Bikes where parts like this have been installed carelessly are genuinely scary. Full lock and\u2014brake! That’s a safety issue.<\/p>\n

I basically don’t test ride bikes where the owner has worked on critical components. It’s just too risky.<\/p>\n

Same approach as always: light welding on the stem side to reduce the turning radius. Of course, we only narrow it within the range where handlebar lock still works.<\/p>\n

If installing a brake master cylinder means you can’t get full lock, or you have to disable handlebar lock, or it creates any obstacle in daily use, then it shouldn’t be installed. That’s my philosophy.<\/p>\n
