\nAdditional work: fabricating the oil cooler hose\u2014a simple job, or so it should be.<\/p>\n

\nBut when you turn the handlebars, the fairing touches. I’d like to lower it, but there’s a rare hand-bent duplex cyclone exhaust fitted to this GSF1200 that won’t budge. I’ll lift it forward and up a bit to keep it looking decent.
\nThe parts I made: light bracket, oil cooler stepped collar, turn signal collar, threaded rod, and hose clamp.<\/p>\n

\nThe turn signal gets hidden when mounted to the light bracket, so I fabricated and welded a bracket on the bracket side. I also welded a quirky bracket underneath the chin area.
\nLater I pointlessly added some knurling.<\/p>\n

\nA sudden bright idea: the headlight on the light bracket is basically held at two points from left and right.
\nOnce the fairing is on, wind pressure makes it flap, so I need a restraint. But I thought it would be nice if the fairing angle had some flexibility. Enter the shift rod strategy.<\/p>\n

\nOne rod does the job and allows adjustment. It’s far easier and more convenient than positioning and welding.<\/p>\n

\nSlack but as straight as possible.
\nUnless you’re threading through somewhere really tight, I choose hose that’s as stiff as possible. The bends are the fittings’ job. Under pressure, the hose wants to straighten out.
\nI’m always amazed at how well OEM parts are made.<\/p>\n

\nNo contact even when turning the handlebars\u2014clear.<\/p>\n

\nI fix it with a bracket so it doesn’t move. Using cable ties to secure spots where a break would be bad is really disappointing.<\/p>\n

\nJust barely clearing my own “10mm rule.”<\/p>\n

\nOf course, the oil filter must be easy to remove and install. You can’t just keep adding parts. I always think simple and smooth is best.<\/p>\n
