\nLet’s perform oil-cooled maintenance. Unless things are seriously out of whack, this isn’t a service that improves performance, but checking it gives you peace of mind\u2014I’d say it’s a worthwhile menu item.<\/p>\n

\nFirst, we’ll replace the generator damper. For its age, it’s showing some hardening.
\nThe engine feels pretty hot.<\/p>\n

\nThe new one is on the right, and the one we removed is on the left. The peak height on the tight contact areas is less than half.
\nWith considerable weight bearing down while receiving vibration, wear doesn’t average out evenly.<\/p>\n

\nBy the way, if you skimp too much, it gets beaten and the case wears down, so you need to be careful.<\/p>\n

\nWe scrub the head cover thoroughly along the grain. The trick is to get it clean quickly without spending too much time\u2014that’s what good technique looks like.<\/p>\n

\nWe want to do everything we can within our scope. Polishing makes it cleaner than new and feels great.<\/p>\n
