\nThese days, parts are so readily available that we take it for granted. But when sourcing components, we’ve come to rely so heavily on the internet that various manufacturers have slipped my mind entirely. When I looked into it, most places showed no stock or a two-week lead time. Between the offset considerations and figuring out the front-to-rear sprocket ratio combinations, the sourcing kept getting pushed back. In the end, I settled on ISA. ISA brings to mind the Marchesini that came with the Gixxer era\u2014those stone-colored sprockets looked great too.<\/p>\n

\nThere was a slight problem: when extended, it hit the frame, and when retracted, it hit the tire. So I went with an offset that allows some flexibility\u2014you can install and remove it as needed\u2014and we got it sorted.<\/p>\n

I touched up the back side, so we’ll check it later.<\/p>\n

\nFinally got the chain installed. Whether you measure the outer or inner width, I align it with the other links. Too tight would be the worst, and too loose isn’t great either.<\/p>\n

\nLooking at the sprocket cover, it suddenly reminded me\u2014I can’t remember if it was a Z or a GSX, but someone once asked me to fit needle roller bearings into the stock cover. There’s the question of where to bore and how to press, but before that, needle rollers and the bearing race go together. If you did that kind of work, the shaft would end up all rattled and that’d be the end of it.<\/p>\n

\nI also rust-proofed the shaft. I wonder if they’re running a reverse shift setup? The rod should really be a bit longer than this.<\/p>\n

After that, it’s just a test ride and we’re done.<\/p>\n
