We removed it to replace the disc. There’s quite a bit of brake pad dust accumulated. I heard a rumor that there’s an expert in Hayama who cleans all the holes with cotton swabs after every ride.<\/p>\n

If it’s just one a day, that seems doable. Still, that’s incredible.<\/p>\n

As brake disc wear progresses, it develops this kind of necking. The top and bottom don’t contact the pad, so the original thickness remains.<\/p>\n

Chamfering the top and bottom edges of new pads might make this condition more likely.<\/p>\n

Conversely, if it’s necked this much and you install pads without chamfering, the pad won’t contact the disc at all. I think it’s important to match the current condition.<\/p>\n
