Check the wheel bearing movement while also confirming the distance collar position.
Bang! Bang! When you tap the axle shaft in,
depending on timing the bearing can shift and the distance collar can end up loose and rattling.

There are also cases where the bearing press-fit area on the wheel side simply wears thin and the distance collar ends up loose and rattling.
It’s reassuring to check the bearing movement and distance collar position condition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So the caliper oil seal is really important.
After cleaning the caliper,if the piston retraction feels sluggish, it’s already time for an OH.<\/strong>

I have a bit of a quirk about this…
I use OEM steel fasteners, especially Honda ones. For the nipples, I basically swap them out for titanium.
I used to stick with steel nipples for years,
but with fluid that attracts moisture, steel does rust.

Since nipples are small, the clamping feel is fine with titanium, so I go titanium there and steel everywhere else. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The old Deco-mainte was like inspection and maintenance where“you just disassemble, clean, and check items off a list”<\/strong>as you go.
A lot of the time you’d take apart parts that weren’t obviously badand I thought, “Isn’t this kind of pointless?”<\/strong>

Especially fork oil changes\u2014the cost-benefit is thin, and even an OH doesn’t really change anything.
So people end up either not changing fork oil and just riding until an OH is needed…
It’d be nice to change it more often and enjoy tuning the feel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes just pulling off the carb and blowing it out with compressed air would fix it, but it’d end up being an OH anyway.
There’s a lot of frustration with that kind of thing.
So now we’ve shifted to “maintain as needed,”
and we still handle the essentials properly, so it’s even more thorough! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
