\nWith a lot of office work and limited time, let’s do some light custom work.<\/p>\n

\nGot the inspection done first thing this morning\u2014it’s a GSX-R750J.
\nInspection, oil change, and custom work, etc.<\/p>\n

\nThe fairing bracket and rear fender have been rattling, and they’ve been held together with cable ties for years now. The owner wants us to do something about it, even if it’s just a light fix.<\/p>\n

\nShould we use sheet metal or pipe? We’re torn on the material. Since welding gives us flexibility and makes it easier to adjust the fit, we went with a welded approach.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>The owner said no surface treatment needed, so we just gave it a light coat. We installed the original stepped plastic spacers on the fairing side, so it’s gentle on the fairing.<\/p>\n

\nThe rear is a simple triangular shape with barrels\u2014lightweight and stiff, plus it looks good.<\/p>\n

\nThe top side uses bolts, and the tail lens side is plastic, so we used push rivets for fastening. It’s not worth the trouble of bolts and nuts.
\nThe push rivets won’t experience enough shear force to fail.<\/p>\n

\nThe pop rivets were stripped, so they’d been switched to bolt and nut fastening. While we’re at it, let’s fix that. Steel pop nuts would be ideal, I think.
\nPop nuts come in different styles\u2014some with collars, some hexagonal\u2014that resist spinning, so you need to stock a variety.<\/p>\n

\nWing nuts don’t need tools, so we ground them down and tack-welded them in place.<\/p>\n
