I purchased Makita gear for the first time in a while.
This time it’s 18V Cordless Grass Trimmer MUM604D<\/a><\/strong>.

My dream as an old man came true – living in a house with a lawn
and I mow the grass fairly often. <\/span><\/strong>
A regular lawn mower obviously can’t cut the edges…
So I had to resort to quite analog methods like using scissors.
Since the area is so large, it’s not very practical, and I finally decided to buy a cordless trimmer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since it’s marketed as a grass trimmer, the blade is naturally thinner than I expected.
Maybe this thickness is for safety reasons and to account for flying debris.

It’s more like cutting at the base with scissors.
After using it, quite a few people probably feel like it doesn’t cut as well as they thought <\/span><\/strong>.
It’s more of a tool that requires some technique. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s a lock pin above the trigger that you press while squeezing the trigger.

It’s nice to buy Makita again after a while.
But since it’s a grass trimmer, it’s a pretty niche product that doesn’t sell in huge numbers.
I sometimes wonder if it would have been more powerful with a 40V battery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This trimmer is designed to cut grass while moving forward. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you press it against the wall without moving, it won’t cut.
The image is more like using the tip of scissors with a snipping motion.

If you feed it into the back of the scissors while moving forward, the work becomes much easier. <\/strong>
The angle of approach wasn’t too critical.
Also, if the grass is tall and lying down, you won’t be able to cut it. <\/strong>*It’s difficult to cut.

If you use it with the image of a hair clipper in mind,
you might think “Huh?” <\/span><\/strong>Many people might feel that way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since our property is about 240 tsubo, cutting all of this with scissors would be mind-boggling.

At first, I thought it was completely useless… but once you master the technique, you can snip away quite nicely.

Yeah, there are gaps like this that you just can’t deal with.

Depending on the approach,
you could use a “short nylon cord on a string trimmer” <\/strong>but that seems like overkill.
I think having a tool that can handle what needs to be done casually is the best. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is also effective under posts like this.
If you move around the post in a circular motion, you can cut quite cleanly.

Honestly, after using it, I think it’s a pretty niche tool.
As for whether it can be used for light grass cutting, it’s somewhat questionable.
Rounding to the nearest tenth, it can’t cut through something like slightly hard wood that’s about 10mm thick. <\/strong>

There are always places that are too narrow and can’t be fully handled.
Along walls or behind air conditioners – electric tools just can’t reach.

Sometimes a sickle won’t fit either, so I had to resort to something like a utility knife.
But with this guy on the job, work efficiency has improved dramatically. <\/span><\/strong>
It’s such a niche use that I was hesitant to spend 9,000 yen, but buying it was absolutely the right call.
I can’t go back to manual anymore.

It takes a bit of technique to use, but once you get the hang of it, it delivers incredible performance.
If you’re struggling with edge problems, definitely give it a try! <\/p>\n\n\n\n
