\nSKF fork oil seal replacement
\nThat’s what we’re doing.

Starting with the most efficient tasks

Replacing the plug too
 
\n
 
Once we remove it
\nBe careful not to scratch it if you apply the puller directly \u2605
\nThe black towel goes on the wheel to . . .
\nIt’s insurance against accidentally scratching it. We all make mistakes, right?

Since it leaks, a sealed bearing is the way to go.
\nNobody wants it to get dirty
 
\n
 
The distance collar needs checking \u2605
\nIf it’s too long, we can adjust it, but if it’s too short, that’s the worst.
 
\n
 
We’ll replace the seal with a new one too \u2605 In this condition, the collar won’t turn by hand.
\n“Wheel rotation = oil seal rotation,” but there’s intense friction.
\nThe oil seal is pretty tough, and it’s a racing situation where the collar wears down and develops contact.
\nOn newer bikes
\nThis kind of movement is GOOD, so I guess this one is just old?
\nWe don’t work on off-road bikes, but we do pre-contact the seal lip from the start.

It’s dirty, so we’ll replace the puller.

The nut is more expensive, so we’ll dye it black.
