\nMy shoulder has finally been rotating smoothly lately. I think I can make it through the summer now!
\nTo put it in perspective, it’s like going from F1.4 to F5.6? Sorry, that probably doesn’t make sense.
\nSo here’s what’s left from dinner last night\u2014

It’s a bit hard to see, but the mounting surface is raised (bulging)\u2026
\nThe back side isn’t finished flat from the casting, so you can’t tell by thickness alone,
\nbut it’s clearly abnormal.
 
\n
 
The surface is obviously not flat\u2026and it looks like it was hand-filed all over.
\nI can’t just leave it alone, so\u2026
 
\n
 
I’m going to split it\u2026
 
\n
 
What was going on? I can’t even imagine\u2026 Yeah.
\nI’ll surface it flat using the split as my reference.

I ended up having to surface it on our crappy milling machine\u2026
\nSince it’s a used machine, the bed has both good spots and bad spots,
\nand I’m struggling with where to clamp it and how little feed I can use.
\nA milling machine with a digital readout\u2026I can’t buy one. Gotta hold back.

Anyway, the high spots are about 2 mm and the low spots are around 1.5 mm.
