Before balancing the customer’s bike, I need to check a few things while sourcing parts

Checking on the plan to go with a mysterious sidelink

It’s simple! Since the body is the same anyway, swapping “#3 and #1” should work
\nThat’s what I thought, but #3 can become #1
\n#1 cannot become #3\u2026
\nIt’s a shaft issue
\n#3 has synchronized levers on both sides
\nThese are necessary and not available as individual parts
\n“There are reverse-spec options for K through N”\u2026 but
\nA right sidelink would be nice
\nBut a left sidelink would make the cable routing difficult, so I’m ruling it out.

This butterfly valve shaft
\nI’m worried about the risk of removing it.
 
\n
 
It’s fixed with an M3 screw about 1.7 mm thick
\nAnd the back end of the screw is crimped to prevent it from coming out
\nRemoving it as-is doesn’t feel great for the shaft’s threads
\nAnd when you remove it, it definitely gets a bit burry
\nIf the threads strip, the screw size would have to go up, so that’s a no-go
\nThere’s a risk of powder from grinding off the crimped side getting into the carburetor

This area is just held in with wool and not sealed
\nUnless there’s a serious problem, I’ll only inspect this from the outside
