\nMy home internet suddenly became slow
\nstarting around the London Olympics (July 27 to August 12, 2012)
\nYouTube and videos required about 5 minutes of buffering before playing
\nSites with images made me wait 2 minutes
\nI wondered if it had always been this slow
\nI wanted a benchmark to judge by
\nso I ran a speed test to see…
\n0.4 Mbps…. what?
\nWhen things got worse, it dropped to 0.2 Mbps
\nWell, I’m home after work
\nso I don’t use the PC that much anyway, so I figured it was okay
\nThree months passed
\nbut eventually I started feeling stressed about it.
\nWhen I searched online, I found plenty of people in the same situation
\nand I looked at various solutions
\nbut nothing worked at all.
\nAfter testing various things and using process of elimination
\nit came down to two possibilities: “modem failure or degraded phone line”
\nBut could that really happen?
\nI wondered if such a thing was possible
\nSince it’s electrical and mechanical equipment, maybe it could happen
\nWhile I was pondering this
\nby chance
\nI tripped a circuit breaker.
\n(The PC wasn’t running)
\nNot the main one, but one of the smaller
\n“individual circuit breaker”
\nThe usual “turn off the modem and leave it off for a few hours” trick had never worked for me at all.
\nAfter that, everything went back to normal, with no stress like before the Olympics
\nand I was getting a smooth 3 Mbps\u2605
\nWhen I measured the shop’s fiber connection, it was getting about 70 Mbps
