So it turned into a story where everyone gets happy

We stripped all the electrical system parts from the donor scooter!
\nLast night I was working on it after everyone had left.

I really hate scooters.
\nSo many screws, so many clips, and old ones crack and won’t come off…
\nWe can’t do any scooter work at all here\u2605

Confirmed with working parts
\nThe components in this area are
\n“Antenna,” “electronic key cylinder & key,” and “control unit”
\nI replaced the “antenna” thinking it might have poor reception, but that wasn’t it
\nWhen I replaced the main culprit, the “electronic key cylinder & key,” it turned ON right away.
\nWithout a manual I can’t be sure,
\nbut the “control unit” might be involved in ignition and fuel injection?
\nIn the end I only replaced the “electronic key cylinder & key.”

I upgraded the poorest-spec Forza with a transmission-equipped meter and reset the mileage\u2605
\nNext question: why did that “electronic key cylinder” break in the first place?
\nI figured the regulator must have failed and caused overcharging\u2014
\nso I checked the voltage, but it was fine….
\nDegradation? There’s no recall\u2605
\nIt had 40,000 kilometers on it
\nThe day it broke
\nThe battery was weak, the starter was weak, and I’d forgotten my phone, so I headed home
\nEven at the bottom of the house I thought “oh, this might be bad?”
\nIt was weak, but it started, so I managed
\nWhen I thought “oh, I need to stop at Tokyu Store,” it wouldn’t start at all outside
\nbut when I jiggled the switch it responded and I made it to the store\u2605
\nAfter charging it, I had errands in the afternoon, so I tried to ride it, but that’s when it quit.
\nAfter that, I tried “replacing the smart key battery” and “new battery,” but no luck\u2014
\nthe smart key reset procedure didn’t work either
\nIn the end I had to replace everything.
\nIt might have been the smart key,
\nbut I only have one, so I couldn’t test it.
\nThe safe bet is replacing the electronic key cylinder assy.

Finally got it running\u2605
\nI need to think about what to use as a loaner for this one
\n1) I’m worried it’ll break again
\n2) It’s racking up more miles than expected, and costs are piling up.
\n3) It’s getting beat up.
