And now we move on to rear maintenance!

The “L” gave us trouble the other day, but the “K” came right out \u2605

It’s in pretty nice condition

The sleeve inside is in excellent shape too\u2014made us smile \u2605
\nI wonder if bikes from this era just run a bit oilier\u2014we’ll take it!

Here it comes! The chain slider bolt seized up and snapped \u21d2 We center-drilled it with an M4
\nWhen we tried to remove it, the threads were stripped, so we went with a helicoil\u2026
\nWe only had a damaged helicoil on hand, and it was too long, so we gave up!
\nBut we wanted to get the stand back on! So we rushed over to Togashi Engineering on the Sportster!
\nWe picked up about six 1-diameter inserts and brought them back to install.
\nThe new ones without any set-in went in smoothly \u2605
\n(The bad ones get tossed.)

It’s looking pretty clean\u2014we gave it a thorough wash
 
\n
 
All cleaned up with plenty of grease, it slides right through
\nThe frame up to “K” doesn’t have swingarm pivot adjustment, so we use washers to dial it in
\nBut this bike had a pretty big gap\u2026
\nIdeally we’d get it tight\u2026but it won’t fit
\nSo we fiddled around trying different shims \u2605
