There are quite a few mysterious malfunctions out there in the world \u2605
\nSome are mechanical in nature
\nSome are electrical in nature
\nAnd once you figure out the answer, it’s like “of course!”
\nThis time we have “the starter keeps spinning even though the main key is OFF.”
\nAt least the engine won’t start, so that’s a relief.
\nI was able to borrow the manual from the owner, so this should go quickly.

The wiring is terribly messy

We’ve narrowed it down pretty well now \u2605 This is the wiring going to the main key
 
\n
 
What’s this?
\nI think it’s probably a homemade headlight brightness kit.
\nIt’s got some insulation, but it’s mostly exposed.
\nThe handlebar area is now clean and properly insulated.
\nThe mysterious continuity in the starter relay is gone, so it should be fine.
\nAll that’s left is to charge the battery, check it, and we’re done \u2605
