\nFirst, they’re so seized up they won’t turn, they stink, and the solvent won’t clean them, so I’m soaking them.
\nThe grease has turned into something like plastic \u2605 What kind of grease is this? What is this?
\nWhile they soak, I’ll disassemble the next set.
\nThe ball bearings inside are 3.96 mm, so they’re 5\/32 inch, I think.
\nTwelve balls per pedal, two of them, so that’s 24 balls\u2026
\nThey’ve probably never been opened before, so what can you expect\u2026
\nThe inside is clean, the shaft and races too \u2605 Oh wow!
\nSince the pedals only rotate a bit, maybe they don’t wear much.
\nBoth the “races” and “balls” inside are wear items \u2605
\nIf we could replace them, maybe we could pack them tighter and get even better performance\u2026
\nBut I’m being cheap, so I’ll just use what’s there.
\nThe grease is the usual NC100 Hyper MP Grease "
\nEven with this, the grease feels a bit draggy, so I’ll thin it out by adding a tiny bit of nose oil.

\nWhen I looked into the ball bearings,
\nthere are ceramic ones in good grades available! And in all sizes too \u2605
\nBut there’s no end to it, so I’ll skip that.
\nOne lock washer was missing its tab, so I had to make one with TIG welding.
