Mileage: 65,000 kilometers\u2014quite a bit of riding there\u2026
\nNow, regardless of mileage, the internals are in great shape \u2605
\nIt’s in remarkably clean condition, and the cam shows no signs of seizing.
\nIt seems that when you ride consistently, cam seizing is less likely to occur.
\nThe quality of engine oil doesn’t seem to have that much impact (though whether ultra-cheap oil is okay is unclear),
\nand it’s not about frequent valve adjustments either.
\nWhat matters is that during each ride, you establish stable oil pressure and keep the oil circulating well, so that before the head oil drains away, you ride again\u2014
\nthat’s what I think is best.
\nSo you might think, “Well, if we’re just looking at valves and such, we don’t need oil-cooled maintenance at all!”
\nBut we don’t adjust things just because they’re broken;
\n it’s better to ride in a smooth, well-running state,
\nso that’s why we do the adjustment \u2605
\nEngine dampers wear down and cause fine vibrations.
\nGenerator dampers wear down and cause rattling at idle.
\nWhen valve timing goes off, it gets noisy, and I want to visually inspect the rocker arm wear to understand where the noise is coming from\u2014
\nthat’s the point \u2605
\nWe also check and adjust cam chain slack, which stabilizes valve timing that might otherwise shift front to back.
\nSince cam chains don’t stretch uniformly around their entire length, we visually inspect and check the slack before adjusting \u2605
\nOnce we adjust, synchronize the carburetors, and tune the idle, things should improve a bit\u2014
\nBut anyway, let me set that aside\u2026
\nThe engine oil has been changed regularly, so the internals are nice and clean.
\nThere’s some wear from the mileage, but it’s still got plenty of life left.
\nThe steering was heavy, so I adjusted it!
\nI also adjusted the brake pedal position on my own!
\nOnce you start, there’s no end to it, so we’re calling it done \u2605
