Today we have a Bandit 1200 Final that came all the way from Kashiwa
\nfor the oil-cooled maintenance campaign\u2014a same-day job.
\nAs expected, we’ll be working right in front of the owner, explaining things as we go.
\nIt ends up taking quite a bit longer than you’d think.
\nThe mileage is 23,000 kilometers\u2014pretty moderate.
\nWe try to remove the head cover right away, but it won’t budge!
\n“This is the first time I’ve seen this,” we say as we work it back and forth.
\nApparently it’s been over 150 degrees more than a few times, so that might be why.
\nThe cam shows no seizing and is in good shape, and the cam chain has no slack\u2014also good!
\nThe sync was slightly off and the throttle position sensor opening was uneven.
\nAfter adjustment, it became perfectly smooth.
\nThe owner must ride gently\u2014the engine damper showed so little wear it’s still reusable.
\nI think it’s running quite a bit smoother now!
