Another mysterious item was installed!
\nIt’s a device that tells you what gear you’re in.
\nSeems like it was acting up.
\nSince the undercowl is being installed, the owner is working hard on it.
\nBut nothing seemed to work.
\nIf only we had the manual to check…
\nAfter shaving the cowl and fabricating a bracket, it still wasn’t done.
\nLooking at the wiring diagram, maybe it’s not that color wire but this one?
\nIt fired right up with a “brrrrrr” sound. Nice!
\nIt seems like a pretty good product.
\nIt picks up the engine speed signal, calculates it, and determines the gear.
\nSame method as AIM meters.
\nBack in the day, there were mechanical ones with sensors attached to the shift drum.
\nOnce the wiring is done, we need to teach it the gears, so we lift the rear wheel and run through gears 1 to TOP while increasing engine speed.
\nAnd that’s it, all done.
\nWhether it’s necessary or not is up to the owner.
\nI actually don’t mind this kind of thing.
