When you’re repairing motorcycles, how much trouble you witness on the job site determines how quickly you arrive at the answer.
\nThat’s how it works.
\nI don’t have enough experience to brag about big things, but here’s another interesting problem.
\nY, born in Nagasaki but with a Tohoku accent.
\nGSX750S\u2014he’s been riding it every day for commuting for over 15 years now.
\nBeat up, filthy, wash the thing already!
\nWell, it’s been showing this mysterious malady for quite a while now. (I have him work on it.)
\nThe charging voltage wasn’t coming up, so I had him check the generator and regulator.
\nGenerator OK, regulator NO.
\nOf course he’d replaced it, but he never measured the voltage after the replacement.
\nAfter that, the lights go out, the turn signals blink fast at low RPM and slow at high RPM (it goes away when you rev it up).
\nThe horn goes off by itself sometimes, fuses blow, and when you rev the engine hard it goes into mV mode, and so on and so forth.
\nI don’t know about that stuff! There’s too many problems!
\nIt’s a curse! A curse! Make a pyramid out of chopsticks and pile salt inside it\u2014that’ll fix it!
\nAnd a few days later\u2026
\nEven prayers to the gods didn’t work, and it showed up again yesterday too.
\nI had him keep working on it, but when he got back from his errand he was at his wit’s end, so\u2026
