The warming weather hints that riding season is upon us.
\nSo, we have a Bandit 1200 here.
\nIt’s got about 50,000 kilometers on it\u2014right at the halfway mark.
\nIt came in recently because the engine has been noisy, but\u2014
\nI always wonder if it’ll really get that quiet just from adjusting the valve clearance.
\nUnless it’s really excessive, there’s usually something else going on.
\nCam chain slack, rocker arm wear, generator gear nut looseness\u2014that sort of thing.
\nI can’t say for certain, but having seen so many different cases, I really can’t make a definitive call.
\nAnyway, let’s move on.
\nThe cam is pretty much seized up everywhere \u2605
\nCam chain slack and tension are good \u2605
\nThe engine damper is pretty worn\u2014it’s got a lot of play in it.
\nThe carburetor sync is off as shown in the photo.
\nAfter adjustment\u2014perfect! It’s running smooth and stable now.
