It’s cold today, isn’t it?
\nI don’t have a proper room thermometer, but… it’s 21 degrees!
\nI’m sensitive to cold, so I can’t handle it.
\nI’ve even had to break out the air conditioner and oil heater, but the customers love it and nobody wants to leave. Anyway…
\nA GSF1200 with about 50,000 kilometers on it.
\nWell, it’s not that it’s in bad shape, but the owner wanted to replace it out of concern.
\nLooking at the play in the removed bearing and comparing it to a new one, it’s definitely loose.
\nOnce assembly was done, let’s see how it sounds…

\nThe rear goes clatter-clatter-clatter… “What’s that?”
\nClink, clink. There’s a noise coming from the front. Let me remove the cover and check the sprocket.
\nYeah, I can feel the vibration.
\nThe chain and sprocket were replaced not long ago, so that should be fine.
\nI wonder what it could be…
\nLooking closely, the lock washer isn’t sitting flush against the nut.
\nThat means it’s loose and there’s play between the spline and the washer. I straightened the washer.
\nWhen I touched the nut… oh, “it’s loose!”
\nI tightened it and bent the washers at two spots, and we’re done.
\nThe rear spins smoothly now, nice and quiet!
