I want to swap out the cam\u2014
\nI bet a lot of people feel that way.
\nBut what’s it really like?
\nDoes the bottom end disappear? Does the lifespan shorten? Or does it barely change?
\nIt depends on the bike, but there’s a chance the bottom end loses a little power; however, all that excess low-end torque becomes leaner.
\nAt high RPM, what used to feel like the engine speed and road speed weren’t in sync now feels synchronized\u2014that’s the best way to put it.
\nHonestly, it’s a lot of fun.
\nOnce you go to ST-2 or ST-R, the combination with the exhaust and carburetor can really backfire.
\nFor street riding, isn’t the ST-1 the way to go?
\nOn a high-mileage bike, you definitely want to replace the rocker arms.
\nRocker arms are tricky\u2014when the wear on the slipper where the cam contacts gets severe,
\nthe engine ends up noisy no matter what you do.
\nEven arms that aren’t seized can have worn slippers.
