This is a new maintenance menu for us.
\nIt’s fine even if it’s not oil-cooled.
\nSome bikes are surprising in how little grease is applied to the frame in its factory-fresh state.
\n“Well, it’s brand new, so it should be fine, right?”
\nThat’s what you might think, but there really are good bikes and bad bikes.
\nGood bikes are keepers, bad bikes are duds\u2014that’s the pattern you see here.
\nThe rear doesn’t move through a wide range of angles, so the same spot inevitably gets heavy wear.
\nCombined with insufficient grease and moisture from washing, rust can develop and damage bearings that didn’t need replacing.
\nWe’ve seen this happen more than once.
\nThat’s why maintaining smooth operation early on prevents bigger headaches down the road.
\nIf the bearings are in good condition with low mileage and age, many people have never even looked at them\u2014but it’s definitely worth checking out at least once.
