June 24, 2020 \u2013 I swapped out the carburettor jets before heading to the hot spring \u2605
\nI’m running the stock BST36 carburettor from a GSF1200.
\nMaybe it was the banana pipe, or maybe it was just sitting unused, but the bike wasn’t running right, so I decided to try adjusting the jets.
\nFor starters, I dropped the main jet by 10 sizes.
\nIt ran surprisingly well, so all good on the way there and back \u2605
\nAt the intersection of Route 7 and Route 246, the engine stalled while waiting to turn right.
\nThe starter was clicking and the battery was giving off a “sorry” vibe.
\nI pushed it and turned right anyway. Maybe the hardwired ETC wasn’t working right??
\nEven after disconnecting the wiring it didn’t help. As a last resort, I tried bump-starting it and it fired right up on the first try.
\nSince the shop was close, I headed straight there. I’d wanted to grab something to eat on the way, but I was too tired, so I just went back to the shop.
\nFirst things first \u2013 let’s charge it up \u266a
\nThe charging voltage is too low \u2013 it’s only putting out 12 volts, which is just the battery itself.
\nI checked the regulator \u2013 no problems there.
\nNow let me check the generator.
\nThe voltage is fluctuating wildly, and it’s barely charging at all.
\nThis is a real pain.
\nBut at least it didn’t quit on the highway, YO
\nA blessing in disguise.
