We lightened the rear caliper on the GSF1200 and Bandit 1200.
\nEarned\u2014I wonder if I’m the only one who noticed that the rear squealing disappeared with this caliper?
\nSince the rear gets used so much, when you hit the mountain passes or the track you get a “squeaky” sound like a rocket firework.
\nBut after switching to this one, it stopped squealing\u2014though we also replaced the rotor and other parts at the same time, so I can’t say for sure.
\nBack in the day we used to sandblast these before sending them out for anodizing, but…
\nLately we haven’t been able to go that far, so we’re making do with aluminum pistons from the GS1200SS and R1000!
\nWe also swapped the bolts for stainless steel\u2014looks sharp.
\nThe pad pins didn’t have a retainer originally, so we drilled holes and installed pins to keep them in place.
\nEach piston is 50 grams lighter. Total: 100 grams.
\nSteel piston: 30 g
\nAluminum piston: 80 g
\nCaliper, pins, and backing plate combined: 615 g.
