This is our first time doing carburettor maintenance on a Bandit 1200, so we’re looking forward to it.
\nOnce we start the installation, we realize things are progressing surprisingly smoothly.
\nUnlike the GSF, the air cleaner can be removed. Once you take off the intake manifold, the box comes off easily.
\nNext is the throttle cable, but we use the stock switch holder as is.
\nThe stock throttle cable is long, so we adjust the length by fitting it to the actual installation.
\n(At this point, the TMR cable mounting bracket can be adjusted in two stages, so we position the throttle cable horizontally
\nat the lower hole position)
\nIf possible, it’s safer to use a set screw rather than solder it in place.
\nNext is the fuel petcock replacement. It’s not absolutely essential, but if you’re using it on the track, it’s worth doing.
\nA high-flow petcock has a flow rate that’s incomparable to the stock one.
\nThis time we used a Pingel 3\/8 size “ON-RES-OFF” petcock.
\nI’m not sure if a 1\/4 size would fit directly, but we have a track record of using 3\/8 on oil-cooled bikes,
\nso we’re going with this one.
\nSince the Pingel strainer diameter is larger than stock, we need to enlarge the petcock inlet.
\nWe carefully enlarge it with an air rotary tool, trying not to let debris fall inside.
\nAt this point, we’re almost done. The rest is just installation and tuning.
\nThis time we’re still missing a few things like a catch tank, so we’ll stop here for now.
