Motorcycle repair work comes in waves.
\nWhen you get cocky and say “sure, sure\u266a” and take in jobs, you end up in a really tight spot.
\nNow we’re heading into inspection season. Most people buy their bikes either before Golden Week or in early fall.
\nThis morning I had a Z1000\u2014a bike that looks a lot like a GSF, really well made, and honestly I kind of like it.
\nAfter the tester shop adjusted the lights, we made it safely to the inspection station.
\nDid you know mandatory liability insurance got way cheaper?
\n24 months for 13,400 yen\u2014that’s the deal!
\nI remember paying over 20,000 yen for liability insurance at the last inspection.
\nWell, that was more than a month ago, and complaining about 8,000 yen is pretty pathetic\u2014tax!
\nThere’s nobody at the motorcycle line… it’s Monday, after all.
\nLet me ask a question about catalytic converters on emissions-compliant bikes.
\nQuestion:
\nIf you swap out a catalytic converter on an emissions-compliant bike for an aftermarket one without a cat and no emissions report, but the CO readings are fine\u2014
\nwhat do you do?
\nAnswer:
\nWith aftermarket parts, you need either an emissions report from that manufacturer or one from your own testing\u2014you can’t pass without it!
\nHmm, I need to take the ZRX in for inspection, but in the end I’ll have to put that heavy stock muffler back on…
\nThen this afternoon, after Decoboco, I took H-kun’s GSF that he’d left here in for inspection…
\nWhat’s been bugging me lately is when the bike fails inspection even after the tester shop adjusts it.
\nI guess it can’t be helped\u2014bikes change posture depending on where you sit…
\nSince I’m usually not wearing a one-piece suit, they’re careful with me, but they say “it should be fine.”
\nIf it fails on the lights, they say “retesting? No way\u2014you have to get it adjusted at the tester shop first!”
\nYeah, that’s rough…
\nWhile I was printing the application form, it went “GRRRRR” and the paper got jammed\u2014that’s the end of that.
\nI’ll pick up a new one tomorrow morning, but I can’t go tomorrow, so it’ll have to be Wednesday…
