\nThe photos are a showdown between old and new. It’s not like I’m particularly a Suzuki fan or anything\u2014I ride Suzuki out of necessity\u2026
\nI guess I ride it because circumstances dictated it.
\nIf it weren’t for Asakawa Speed, there’s no way I’d have bought a GS1000S!
\nI had zero interest in classic bikes back then \u2605
\nThe reason I bought it was I happened to get in a right-angle collision (XJR1200) and had some money, so I was wondering what to do with it\u2026
\nThen Asakawa told me there was a GS1000S available in America\u2014want it? And I said, sure, I’ll take it \u266a
\nSo I bought it.
\nI had no particular dreams or anything about it\u2014honestly, any bike would’ve done. I just wanted a learning project for myself.
\nIt came from America, I hooked up the battery and it fired right up. I took it for a quick spin\u2026
\nAnd it was unbelievably slow! The brakes wouldn’t stop it even if I grabbed them all the way! It wouldn’t stay in a lean at all!
\nI knew it would be different, but this much? I was shocked \u2605
\nBut as I gradually worked through replacing parts and doing maintenance, I realized I’d bought a great learning tool.
\nI swapped the ignition points for a full-transistor system! It was my first time seeing a governor.
\nThe fork is a pressurized type\u2026 pressurized? Really? Strange setup.
\nThe chain was 630, and since there were no conversion kits back then like there are now, I adapted it down to 530.
\nI rode it almost every day. On days like today, after work when snow starts falling, I’d head out on the Kanjo 2nd Route\u2014Dai-3 Keihin\u2014Route 246\u2026
\nThe roughly one kilometer to Kanjo 2nd Route took thirty minutes each way, and then I’d come back and take the train home\u2026
\nThese days I’d just take the train without hesitation\u2026
\nThere’s something nice about it when snow falls \u2605
