Rain and no customers\u2014is there anything better than this?
\nWork is progressing nicely, and I couldn’t be happier.
\nAs long as you don’t get in the way, it doesn’t matter if you show up. Just read a book.
\nWell, never mind.
\nThis is Toku\u25cf’s ZRX. It’s been acting up occasionally, so I’m investigating the cause.
\nThere’s really only fuel, electrics, and the engine to worry about\u2014and looking at the mileage, it’s just barely over 10,000 kilometers.
\nI pulled the tank, checked the air cleaner, looked at the spark plugs, and figured it out right away.
\nIt’s that cap lift and corrosion thing these engines are known for. Water gets inside and turns to steam, which causes the cap to float.
\nNumbers 1 and 3 were coming loose, the terminals inside were corroded with verdigris, and it runs fine once you turn them back.
\nWhile I was at it, I also checked the carburetor synchronization. It was way off, and once I got all four cylinders synchronized, the idle became rock solid\u2014feels amazing! \u2605
\nYou really should check carburetor synchronization all the time\u2014at least once a year.
\nThat’s how much it drifts out of sync.
