I went to Tower Records when I was in Shibuya yesterday. Tower Records is really fun because the staff creates recommendation pop-ups for artists I don’t usually listen to, so I can try them out.
\nThat’s why I can listen to them with a push of a button \u2605
\nIt’s a bit late, but I went to buy Birthday’s mini album (they don’t call them maxi anymore, apparently)\u2026
\nI’ve been buying CDs mostly at Tsutaya lately, but the Nakameguro store didn’t have it in stock, so I had no choice but to head to Tower Records.
\nBy the way, I don’t buy at HMV! I wonder why? The store is kind of dark and I don’t like the staff’s attitude.
\nSo I was wandering around with “Alicia” (the mini album name), and whenever I found something I’d never heard before,
\nI’d go “mm-hmm \u266a” and give it a listen.
\nIt said “Must listen if you like Bump!” so I thought, why not? (I do listen to Bump, but not that much)
\nWhen I listened\u2026 oh wow, I get it, I get it \u266a It’s Bump, it’s Bump!
\nBut honestly, wouldn’t just Bump be fine? I actually think Rank Head sounds more like Bump\u2026
\nHmm? At the live venue it said limited to 1,000 copies and Tower Records exclusive, and the paper jacket is kind of cheap-looking, which is cool \u2605
\nIf these guys sell, that’s a nice financial move (a small one, though).
\nBy the way, their name is “tacika”
\nIf I’m unsure, I don’t buy\u2014that’s my golden rule. So I was looking at the shelf next to it\u2026
\n“Dignified Time Rain”\u2014now that’s quite a group name\u2026
\nOh! They have a female vocalist \u266a I thought it was pretty good, so I didn’t want to waste it by not buying, so I picked up the album that came out that day
\n(their second album), their first album, and Alicia\u2014three CDs total, and I was done.
\nSince I didn’t have my Gigabeat at home yesterday, I just converted the files for now and decided to listen at the store tomorrow.
\nI’ll sync it to my Gigabeat first thing in the morning and let it play on shuffle \u266a
\nThen PLAY \u266a \u2026what is this?? It’s either cool or creepy, or\u2026 hmm?
\nIt’s hard to describe compared to any music I’ve heard before\u2026??
\nHmm? Hmm? What do I think? The female vocalist’s voice is good, but then a guy comes in and it’s like a scream or something, I don’t know what to call it
\n“Uh-eh” and all that\u2014I just let it play continuously to get my ears used to it.
\nThis is definitely polarizing, and it seems like the negative opinions are overwhelming.
