The BST36 carburetor comes stock on the GSF1200\u2026
\nI think it’s an absolutely wonderful carburetor.
\nGreat serviceability \u2606 Both the top and bottom covers are secured with just two bolts, which is really handy when you’re tuning.
\nThe slide valve needle is replaceable! The slide valve action is truly impressive! You can reduce the body easily!
\nJust being able to swap this out means you can keep it running for years.
\nThe throttle cable has two pulls \u266a Just having a return side makes a real difference. Single-pull BST carburetors like those on the R1100
\nhave sharp response from full closed. But with just two pulls, amazingly the response becomes milder.
\nI think two pulls are easier to manage than one.
\nSynchronization is easy to set \u2605 The top cap has a sync adjustment port, so it’s super convenient~
\nYou can reach it right after lifting the tank\u2014this thing is great \u266a The Bandit is a pain.
\nNow, to keep this thing running smoothly, it needs regular maintenance.
\nSince there are many O-ring-sealed areas, make sure to replace them all!
\nThe O-ring in the float section in photo 3 must be replaced\u2014if it slides in too easily, it’s loose and that’s essential!
\nThe area shown by the screwdriver in photo 4 also needs replacing! The float valve sits here, and if it’s loose, fuel will leak sideways and the fuel level will
\nrise.
\nPhoto 5: This T-fitting has a mesh filter inside, so when you disassemble it, always disconnect the hose and
\nclean it.
\nPhoto 6: This white part comes off, so please remove and clean it. There’s a lot of gunk in there\u2026
\nPhoto 7: The removed part! There’s an O-ring here too, so replace it \u2605 If this deteriorates, it will also suck fuel from the side of this block and
\ncause problems. By the way, the GSXR KLMN also has this O-ring, but it’s not listed in the parts
\ncatalog, so using the one from the GSF is a good idea.
\nPhoto 8: The top cap O-ring is easy to lose, so a light coat of grease will help~
\nAlso, by the way, the GSF1200 has several errors in its parts catalog, so
\nwatch out! There are mistakes in the fork section and carburetor O-rings, so be careful!
\nI wonder if they’ve fixed that by now?
\nNot shown in the photos, but the pilot screw O-ring is essential too.
\nEverything else is standard~ Check the needle wear (shine) too~
