Tsutaya was running a half-price sale on older titles, so I stopped by on my way home from drinks.
\nI’d been invited to a New Year’s party that H-san had organized for some acquaintances, and I was heading back from that.
\nThe other day, “the birthday” released a single called Nightline, and with the first pressing came
\ntwo types of bonuses\u2014either live audio (two tracks) or live video.
\nI don’t watch video that much, so I grabbed the audio version \u266a In the old days, I would have definitely bought both and even picked up the analog version
\nbut my collecting habit has settled down, and these days I don’t do that anymore.
\nI decided to rent some stuff while I was there and browsed around, ending up with four titles \u266a
\n1. Tsubakiya Quartet \u2014 two albums
\n2. Yosui Inoue \u2014 one album
\n3. Bump of Chicken \u2014 one album
\nI’d been a bit curious about Tsubakiya Quartet but hadn’t had a chance to listen, so this was the perfect opportunity.
\nYosui Inoue is being used in commercials right now, and I got curious, so I grabbed a two-disc best-of collection!
\nI have “Jupiter” by Bump of Chicken, but I haven’t touched any of their earlier work at all,
\nso this time I really want to dig deep into it.
\nIt takes me a lot of time to really savor one album. I listen to it, look at the lyrics, and wonder what the poet’s intention was,
\nand I enjoy interpreting it my own way. Some songs have an immediate impact, some are habit-forming, some leave a deep impression\u2014
\nthey get classified in various ways and absorbed into my music collection.
\nI really do prefer Japanese music. With foreign music where I can’t understand the lyrics or the songwriter’s intent doesn’t come through, I don’t tend to pick it up much.
\nIt’ll probably take me a while longer to get into that.
\nI wish I could rent from a bigger Tsutaya location (Sangenjaya or Shibuya) because there are so many more artists I’d love to listen to,
\nbut our Nakameguro and Gakugei University branches just don’t have the selection.
\nBut I really do think the chances to buy CDs have dropped. I miss the days when I thought I’d buy dozens of them a year.
\nThe buying market has definitely shrunk dramatically.
\nThere’s the convenient system of online music distribution, and it’s cheaper than buying regular CDs, which is appealing.
\nBut GIGA BEAT is really performing great \u266a It’s the best!
