Well, it rained all morning, so without a rain jacket I took the train to work.
\nWalking there is pretty nice too\u2014iPod in hand, riding the Toyoko Line.
\nWhether I walk or take the train it’s about 15 minutes either way, so walking lets me see the scenery and discover things in the random shuffle of songs
\nflowing through\u2014that’s pretty great too.
\nSo anyway…
\nI made the color and flanged nut for the front fender mounting, changed the fork oil, and adjusted the viscosity and oil level.
\nThe color spacer is long, and I don’t like how much initial preload is left after taking out 1G, so I’ll trim it down a bit.
\nDamping-equipped forks are so easy! Really convenient.
\nGot that far done, and now I’m machining the speedometer gear. The wheel is Suzuki spec, so I adjusted it
\nto match that.
\nI sent the small parts out for aluminum anodizing, so now we wait for them to come back.
\nTomorrow I can assemble up to the cylinder, so I’ll do that and machine the handlebar post, then pause for now.
\nAnd for lunch, I’ve been really into udon lately. Sanuki udon, that is.
\nI went there for the first time in a while yesterday and it was so good, so today I’m taking my buddy and let’s go!
\nFried eggplant udon, medium fatty tuna bowl, and a small side dish\u2014all for 1,100 yen.
\nDelicious! I slurp it right up.
\nMy buddy’s drinking an Ebisu small bottle and grinning away.
\nOn the way back there was a butcher shop, and when I peeked in, wouldn’t you know it\u2014there were croquettes!
\nTwo ham cutlets, two croquettes, two menchi cutlets\u2014bought two of each!
\nAnd they fry them fresh right there! This is looking really promising!
\nFirst, the ham cutlet! Fresh-cut and fresh-fried, delicious…
\nNext, the menchi cutlet! Crispy… oh wow! Delicious… hmm?
\nI was starting to feel something was off. Finally we tried the croquette at the shop.
\nDelicious… hmm?
\nIs my palate off, or what? I ask my buddy, the self-proclaimed C-class gourmet, what he thinks.
\n“Doesn’t this taste kind of sour?”
\n“Yeah! There’s definitely a sour note… the filling might be a little off.”
\nMy appetite vanished instantly!
\n“Should we throw it out?”
\n“Yeah, let’s toss it.”
\n“Wait, let me check one more time!” So we both tasted it again… yeah, it’s sour.
\nWe threw it out. This time of year can be pretty risky!
\nThen I got a craving for freeze-dried tofu, so I grabbed the one I bought before and rehydrated it right away.
\nI looked it up and you don’t rehydrate it in water\u2014you put it straight in the broth… yeah, yeah.
\nDone! Mentsuyu tofu…
\nIt’s been a while since I’ve had that subtle texture, and I was a little moved…
