Lately I’ve been heading home early and taking walks on a promenade near my house.
\nThat’s because I sent the GSF’s wheels out for painting and plating. I can’t ride the bike right now.
\nI move my body around, rotating my shoulders and doing yoga stretches with my neck. (Looks suspicious on a dark path.)
\nAfter walking about a kilometer, I stop at the 99 Yen Shop to pick up yogurt and jarred fruit for breakfast, then head back.
\nThat’s what I do.
\nThis promenade has a river flowing underneath, with lots of greenery on both sides and street lights standing along it.
\nAs I was gazing at it all dreamily… wait? Oh, oh, oh\u2014there they are!
\nGeckos! These guys are smart little things that eat harmful insects, feeding on the bugs that gather around the lights.
\nOf course I catch them. To catch these things, I just grab them quick with my bare hand and toss them into a bag.
\nI do this every year, and last year was the best\u2014over 30 geckos on a round trip! I may have overharvested a bit.
\nBut by releasing a couple or three of these guys under the refrigerator or places like that, they eat cockroaches and such (the small ones).
\nThey don’t get tame and always escape outside the house pretty quick, so I’m not sure how well it works…
\nThis kind of natural element has really decreased in Tokyo.
