The non-cartridge oil filters commonly used on older Kawasaki bikes are a bit tedious to replace.
Even though the filter itself is the same,
“the direction the iron bowl attaches varies by model,” so you need to get a bit familiar with it.
It’s easier to understand if you check whether the bowl is flat or has a recessed finish.
Anyway, getting back on track,
there’s an amazing item that can convert this somewhat tedious oil filter replacement into a cartridge-style system.
*Since it costs a bit, if you don’t do your own oil changes, you might not need it.

By the way, the Zephyr 400/550 compatibility was unconfirmed, so I got excited and bought it anyway.
The oil filter, oil filter valve (16126-1108), and plate (cap) are
common parts, so I figured it should work fine.
O-rings are not included, so please prepare them separately.
The union’s flat width is 23mm, so it’s a bit niche.
It was just a matter of removing the work and replacing it.
I made sure to check the depth and positional relationship before installing it.
I just replaced it as is and got a perfect fit.
Once it’s cartridge-style, the replacement becomes incredibly simple.
It’s a completely self-satisfying item.
It sticks out a bit, so if your muffler layout is tight, it might be difficult.
For me personally, it’s a very nice item, but I think it’s a pretty niche part for the general market.
If you have an older bike with a wet-type oil element, this covers many different models.
If you want to keep things neat and tidy, I recommend it.
