GSX1100S Inspection, Harness Replacement, Muffler Installation, FCC Clutch, Oil Change, and More

Hmm? Something feels stiff…

There’s no sign of rubbing either? I wonder why…
When a bike gets a bit old, this kind of thing happens quite often.

Usually things don’t go smoothly, so the odds of problems are high, and I don’t worry about it (;・∀・)

GSX1100S Tightening Torque 59Nm

I checked it again after a long time, but…
“What? Isn’t it low?”

Even with the same shaft diameter and similar locations, they differ by era.
Manufacturers have evolved based on various ideas and countermeasures.

“Use the manual as a basic reference” is the idea.
It’s something made by humans, and time has passed.
Typos are possible, so to some extent it’s left to the discretion of the technician…

This kind of issue is really incredibly common.

Rather than blindly following the manual,
if you understand the torque somewhat based on shaft diameter and material,
“Hmm?” decreases.

And if you can handle it even without a manual, you’ll be in good shape.

The hub area is heavy, so I’m thinking of increasing the play amount with shim thickness…
It’s an interesting era, isn’t it?

Being able to adjust the play amount of the primary reduction…
By the way, shims are discontinued and won’t come out… Please note

Wait a minute? What about the old hub?

There are traces of machining work.
There’s no sign of contact with the primary reduction, so it must have been machined.

However,
even when I installed the new FCC hub (Suzuki genuine), there’s no trace of contact.
It’s quite mysterious.

Other than the machined part, they’re the same size,
so with all these concerns, I’ll use the old hub.

It’s just right, escaping outside the large washer.

I also wondered if the large washer warps,
but it rotates with the hub, so it’s not related.
It’s mysterious.

The nut uses a crimped nut like those on oil-cooled bikes.

The parts that attach to the counter shaft end (clutch/sprocket)
naturally loosen with throttle ON/OFF; it’s an area prone to loosening.
If you double-lock it with a lock and lock washer, you’ll be safe.

I finished polishing the cover too while I was at it ☆

Shiny! I hope next time I take it off, it’ll make me go “wow!”

Tighten firmly with a torque wrench to confirm.

With this special tool, it’s impossible for human power to hold it
and tighten it with a torque wrench.

Actually, there are many such matters in the world.
The reason work can’t be shown

actually lies there… (ours too)

It’s good to replace the collar that goes between the springs.

The springs rub it and make it all scratched up, so when it’s clean,
it looks neat! (*´ω`*)

Cover it up and we’re done.

The time spent checking, installing, and removing takes quite a bit.
What’s it all about anyway?

I need to get to the harness work soon…
To be continued.

(*´ω`*) Wow~ An FCC clutch!
