After thinking it over all night, I decided to go with the less troublesome approach.
Making a tail pipe as a standalone piece would be a lot of work, so… (in my case)
I’ll cut right through it.
I’ll reuse the base fitting, then align the edges carefully and tap it into place.
Rather than make a muffler bracket, I’ll weld a boss and shift the position.
I’ll fine-tune the alignment a bit more and then weld it.
At this point, it’s difficult to raise the tail pipe any higher.
It’s a small difference, but it really does look a lot more stylish.
