First… how many years has it been since we said we’d do it? We haven’t done the reinforcement of the Wilkinson case for loading and unloading.
I’ve been thinking for years that the middle might just fall out… but today’s the day…
With a shearing machine and corner radius die, it’s done in a flash.
For shop owners who do some machining and customization work: if you have a shearing machine instead of just hand shears, it’s incredibly convenient. You won’t regret buying one, maybe.
We finished it up with cable ties so it works with Wilkinson again. Really solid now.
Next…
We use a soldering iron a lot. Soldering iron? Solder gun? When you use it, you also have to bring flux and solder.
Since I can’t carry everything in one hand, it’s just a few steps, but that’s two round trips a year. It probably adds up to an incredible distance. Even if I had a shallow tray… searching for one is more hassle.
Buy it → can’t use it → search for it again = annoying → leave it alone. That’s been going on for years now, so it’s time to fix it.
I bent an arm to hook my finger on, then welded it.
The tray is inexpensive steel, so it’s a bit heavy. If it rusts, it might look cool, maybe.
It fits perfectly that way. The storage is the shell of an old speaker we used to have.
The plan is to heat the stem bearing race and pull it out, or press it in if needed.
I had ordered the soldering iron tip, but making it was just too much of a hassle…
So I finally got around to it and worked on it bit by bit.
Now it fits perfectly with the inner diameter of the bearing.
The ultrasonic cleaner that’s been too much of a hassle to use at all. The process of “fill with water, heat it up, add detergent, drain it” was annoying, so I used it a few times and left it alone. I need to do something about this before the year ends too…
If you arrange the shop’s machines, tools, and equipment so they’re easy to use, you won’t get frustrated.
And when the setup looks beautiful, the whole shop looks clean too.
