It’s really cold today too… I have to turn the heat all the way up or I can’t get any work done. We’ve got a humidifier running full blast to keep the air from getting too dry.
Today we’re doing Deco-mainte and a Newtech oil change.
Chrome tanks show scratches when you use them, but they still look really cool, you know?
Paint stripping → buffing and polishing → chrome plating (gas tanks are really unpopular because of weight and oil residue issues) → rust-proofing coating on the inside
When you strip the paint, putty can come out, so it can be rough sometimes—watch out for that.
I’ve seen some spray-on stuff lately that looks like chrome, but I’m not sure how well it actually works.
We used vacuum deposition chrome and nano AG a long time ago, and while they gave a finish close to real chrome, they didn’t have quite the same solid, substantial feel as the real thing.
I’m sure they’ve gotten much better lately.
