So there I was today on a JR train
when I noticed the zipper on my Incase Ari Marcopoulos Camera Bag was open
I swung the bag around to the front and—BOOM!
Man, that was a seriously loud noise…
Like dropping a heavy chunk of lead!
Oh no… I did it…
The lucky breaks
• It was a 70–200, so it only fell about 50 cm to the floor
• The lens cap was on
• Being inside a train meant the floor had some shock absorption
I mean, it’s not exactly lucky that it fell in the first place
but it’s one of those “blessing in disguise” situations
where you have to find that small silver lining in the negative.
So
this cylindrical tube between the two gold dots has
threads cut into it with a lock (locked in the position shown in the photo)
and that’s what loosened and fell…
I was thinking about using thread locker because it scared me
but I should really make a stopper so it can’t come loose.
Still though…
• The lock came loose
• Something pushed on the carabiner in just the right way
How does that even happen?
If it had been concrete, it would’ve been game over ★ meow
