Earthquakes keep creeping up
They used to say there was a 70% or 50% chance of aftershocks, or even higher odds after a major disaster
but they never came.
It’s funny how when an earthquake does hit, you think “see, I knew it”
and when it doesn’t, you’re all “there you go, predictions are just guesses anyway” and feel pretty optimistic about it.
But lately I’ve been genuinely worried, so I checked out both my home and the shop
and realized we depend entirely on water, sewage, electricity, and city gas
If those lifelines get cut, someone like me has absolutely no way to cope.
So I started throwing out all the junk cluttering up the shop and home to make space
and began gradually gathering emergency supplies and essentials!
First up: a gas stove—the Iwatani CB-MVS-1
I compared various models
but I chose this one because it uses gas you can find anywhere, handles crosswinds well, and looks good and stores nicely.
It opens right up!
It’s just held by little tabs you hook your fingernail under, so it’s super easy to attach and detach!
The gas cartridge is held down with a magnet and a snap, which feels a little sketchy, but it should be fine.
You can even store it vertically.
Now I can finally boil instant ramen at the shop! ★
