I’ll work on two sets at a time ★ so that’s four pedals…
First, they’re so seized up they won’t turn, they stink, and the solvent won’t clean them, so I’m soaking them.
The grease has turned into something like plastic ★ What kind of grease is this? What is this?
While they soak, I’ll disassemble the next set.
The ball bearings inside are 3.96 mm, so they’re 5/32 inch, I think.
Twelve balls per pedal, two of them, so that’s 24 balls…
They’ve probably never been opened before, so what can you expect…
The inside is clean, the shaft and races too ★ Oh wow!
Since the pedals only rotate a bit, maybe they don’t wear much.
Both the “races” and “balls” inside are wear items ★
If we could replace them, maybe we could pack them tighter and get even better performance…
But I’m being cheap, so I’ll just use what’s there.
The grease is the usual NC100 Hyper MP Grease "
Even with this, the grease feels a bit draggy, so I’ll thin it out by adding a tiny bit of nose oil.
Light grease, thin consistency, adjusted for minimal play and working great ★ Spinning smooth! ♪
When I looked into the ball bearings,
there are ceramic ones in good grades available! And in all sizes too ★
But there’s no end to it, so I’ll skip that.
One lock washer was missing its tab, so I had to make one with TIG welding.
It smells like solvent…
